a busy last week for JHD

My little business (Joyful Home Designs) is keeping me busy. JHD is on Facebook now, even. So go like me if you want to! : )

And I had some orders to fill. So, I made a sign or two.... $35 for the "Est." signs

And $25 for the smaller sign

Sewing machine got busy too.... an infant car seat tent/cover for a sweet baby Molly, coming in Sept. I love making these, I think they will end up being my go-to baby gift. I had someone tell me to monogram "Keep germy hands off" on the blue part! Haha. I thought she might just want to the baby's name, or monogram on it, which is why I made it blue. (The lining is also that same blue.) One mom told me I should hang a sample in the pediatricians' office along with my business card, because people always ask her where she got it. Which makes my heart happy. : )

I made some things last week. Like this easy sign...go here to get yours...in all different colors! : )
I just printed it out and stuck it in a frame I had, on top of some scrapbook paper I already had. Easy. It makes me happy. So that's what I made for myself this week.

I'm linking up to the crafty goodness at Skip To My Lou for Made by you Monday...

This took an hour...

I realize that all too soon, I won't be running after her and cleaning up her messes. I spend so much time each day, chasing after her. She is a busybody, a whirlwind of activity and curiosity. The other day I thought...if I don't take pictures of this, one day I will forget how it used to be. And I don't ever want to forget. Because one day in the future, I will have all the time in the world to keep a spotless house.

We start off pushing the chair all over the kitchen.
And then the destruction begins

Done with those!

Enough fruits & veggies...

Papers!!!!

The stuff under the tv? Boring...

I'll tear out all the tissues in the box, that sounds fun.

Ahhhhhh. The Wii basket is a favorite thing I'm not supposed to get.

But the best might be the cabinets....
CAUGHT!

Uh oh, Momma sees me.

So I use my secret weapon~HOW can she resist this face?

See, I'm so cute! You don't see me messing with dishes...

Is it working? Are you under my spell?

Ok, I'll play in the tupperware cabinet since momma says its okay.

My sweet 1 year old

Abbie turned 1 just about two weeks ago.  I can't even believe it's been a year. She sure has changed our lives for the better. A year ago I had no idea what I was doing-we were in triage mode, just hoping for survival and doubting we'd ever get a normal amount of sleep again. What a DIFFERENCE a year makes. We made it through the horrible projectile reflux issues and back to back to back to back ear infections.

Abbie is such a blessing. It's amazing to see how much she has changed in the past year-how much she's grown, and how much she knows. Just in the past 2 weeks she has learned cookie, no, yes, tickle, wow, and more. She can also say mama, dada, ruff ruff, uh-oh, bye bye....

She was 19 & 1/2 lbs at her 1 yr. appt. She's in the 25% for weight, and 75% for height. So funny. She loves water and dogs. And her appetite is ridiculous. The other day she ate 1 & 1/2 waffles and fruit, and milk for breakfast. She will sign "more" & "all done". She wants to try everything. She would eat fruit and only fruit if we let her. She's a little "plunderer" as my dad says. She goes from place to place, pulling stuff on and making a mess, then moves on to something else. She reminds me of "Stitch" when she does that. She's very curious and independent, and gets frustrated if she can't do something. A few days ago she was squealing in aggravation because she hard her arms stuck, trying to pull her sippy cup thru the slats on the back of the kitchen chair.  She thinks its hilarious when we yawn, and will open her mouth really wide to mimic us. She makes me laugh. She's so hardheaded.

She is a fast crawler. A few times she's stood up and let go of whatever she was holding onto, only to grab on a few seconds later, or sit down very carefully. So, no hurry to walk. I'm okay with that. She definitely goes at her own pace until she decides differently. Been that way since birth. : ) And when she does start to walk, I will have to be that much faster to chase after her whirlwind of chaos and curiosity.

Everyone says that the older you get (or the more kids you have), the faster time goes by. I look back on this year and it already feels like warp speed. I'm trying to hold on to each precious stage, and not wish it away. She's already growing so fast. On the other hand, it's so exciting to see her learn new things. I just want to appreciate every moment. We have been so blessed.

In real life

Sometime (ok, rarely) I find someone online that I just like soooo much- that I think we could be friends in real life.  Natalie has a youth pastor hubby, a darlin' daughter, loves bargains and making things...

So like me! Oh yeah-except she's expecting baby #2 any day now and looks like a stinkin' model. (Seriously. Trying to not be jealous...really trying...)

So anyway, her blog is on my blogroll but check her out HERE.
And not only is she about to have a baby any day, but she also just opened an etsy shop. I mean, reallyyyyy...not sure how she gets everything done in a day! She's got some pretty stuff, wish I knew how to do it! Go HERE to see her etsy stuff.

I really don't know how she does it all. Whew.

I'm getting in gear with Abbie's bday-and the 5,000 other projects I am currently into....

On a terrible side note, the roof of our Hobby Lobby fell in during a bad storm last night. Thank the Lord it was Sunday and closed so people weren't in there...but still...the closest one is over 30 mins away. Heard it might be after Christmas before they re-open, that there's 6 in. of standing water throughout the entire store. I don't know what I'm gonna do-I get supplies there pretty much every week. : (

My heart is SO sad.

stuck

Abbie's birthday is coming up. I have a theme. I have plates & napkins. I have balloons. I have invitations that just need to be printed. And yet, I'm stuck.

I need to make her birthday banner, and other decorations. I want to make her a special birthday outfit, too. And yet, I can't decide on which direction to go. I'm stuck!! I guess I need to go google some inspiration.
; )

Oh yeah, and I'm trying to do too many things at once today. AND I think Abbie might be trying to give up her morning nap  : (  Babies should come with a manual....

At any rate, this next tooth needs to come in so she won't be so crabby!!

Happy almost 4th

I've been pretty busy lately. Working on crafties. Putting up corn. Using peaches off the trees. Dreaming up stuff to do for Abbie's party....which is less than a month away and I really need to get started on. And I have a project list that has several things (for people) that I need to get done. ANd my best friend's bday was the 29th and I really need to find a box to mail her present in-she wanted an est. sign-now I gotta find a long narrow box!!! And I need to design a logo for the business. And on and on.

Found something that really makes me laugh. Go here.....Wienerdog Tricks.
It's for all the people that make fun of me for being crafty.

I love that God is allowing me to do something I love. It's a blessing. I'm so thankful. But sometimes it hurts my feelings when people roll their eyes and tell me that I'm so crafty it makes them sick. Because this is something I feel I'm good at, and trust me, there are TONS of things I am NOT good at.

Abbie got two teeth last week at camp : ) She's gonna take off and be walking before I know it.

I'm also very thankful (not just tomorrow, but everyday) for the people in our military, past and present, that are serving for us. Sacrificing to protect many people who aren't grateful. It seems so trite, but thank you servicemen and women.

procrastination...groan

Okay.
So I've had this Shutterfly credit since January, and I've been putting off using it. Now, I got an email reminder that it expires in 3 days. AKK! I'm only posting right now because I'm uploading pictures and the estimated download time is 50 minutes. Haha.

Geez, why do I do this to myself?

I guess I was just really intimidated by the whole process. Thought it would take wayyy long. For some reason I just find it easier to work with tangible paper and pictures in the old fashioned scrapbook way. You digital scrappers cannot convert me! I have heard, "Oh, it's so easy, it's so much better to do it online"-blaaaaahhhhh. I just have to START somewhere. Ok still waiting for those pics to upload...It better be fantastic when it's done : )

I am going to try my best to crank out a photo album for Abbie's birth. In 3 days or less. Yikes. Tonight might be a late-ish night for me. : )

This week we are at camp. TVR in NC. A great place. It's amazing, kids are having a great time, the weather is blissful. GOOD stuff. GOD stuff. Love it.

Going for now, wish me luck.

Big news!

God has been so gracious...This side business of crafting got started a little before Christmas-with me wondering if anyone would want to buy the things I made.

But after a lot of praying, I decided to NOT to open an Etsy shop for now. I was afraid of two extremes-#1) Being an epic failure by selling zilch, nada. #2) Being way overwhelmed with orders.

So, back to God being awesome. People started asking me to make things for them. And so, a business has been born out of much prayer - Joyful Home Designs. It has always been a dream of mine to be able to make things that people love, and to be able to sell them. For now, word of mouth is bringing me more business than expected. I am so blessed.

My "specialty" seems to be personalized canvases, & wooden established signs. Although I love to dabble in new ideas/designs, and I love to take special orders.  I love to make a "vision" happen!

Soon (hopefully) I will have joyfulhomedesigns.blogspot.com up and running.
I also have another email - joyfulhomedesigns.gmail.com

Some of the projects I have done in the past month....

Bandana dress
Personalized pyrex
Wrist pincushion
Pool bag
Canvas for a sweet girls nursery

It's been forever...hey y'all!

Ok, so I've been terrible at posting. Blogging isn't so much my passion. Because I have so much to say and never take the time for it because it will take so long...then before you know it, a month has gone by and I feel guilty.

Oh well.

Been a busy gal lately. Abbie finally got over the terrible run of ear infections. Now she's hardcore teething. I'll take that over the ear infections though!  9 months old and just got her first tooth, finally.

I've also been crazy busy with making all sorts of stuff. If I were amazing, I'd post pictures of it all. My pictures seem to "live" on my camera until I'm forced to download them because I'm out of space.

Maybe soon I will. Still praying about this crafty business stuff. Right now I don't think ETSY is the way I need to go. Abbie is my #1 job, and I wouldn't want to get so overwhelmed....
and so I am content to make things for friends and family, as they request it.

April/May have been slam busy. SO far: 3 bridal showers, 3 baby showers, 3 grad parties, 2 b-day parties, Graduate sunday, and a partridge in a pear tree. I have lots of crafts (aka gifts) to finish.

I will need June to recover....

So, while Abbie is napping, momma will craft!

3/23/10

homemade goodies!

My friend Melissa requested this canvas to match the bedding of her baby-to-be, Kinsey! Melissa is due next month, and her belly is the size of a jr. soccer ball. Not even the size of a basketball. TEENY. : ) Just sayin...I was SO big with Abbie...SIGH...
Anyway, here's her canvas. Love how it turned out. It may be my fav - except for the one I made Abbie.

Here's the banner I made for another sweet baby-to-be due in the next few weeks, Kaitlin. I had to take it with the old point n shoot because the Nikon was dead, so the colors are off a bit. It's actually a pretty pink color. Oh well, you get the idea.

And lastly, because I can't resist--my most FAVORITE homemade goodie...SASSY Miss Abbie.
I have some projects in the works, hopefully in the next 2 weeks I will complete them.
On a side note, we are taking my mom's sewing machine in this weekend to get serviced so I can get crackin' on my sewing adventure...YAY!!!

3/4/10

I can make it myself!!

So,  I was looking on online and found these cute diaper wipe cases. One lady was selling them for $30! I thought....she MUST be kidding. So I made my own....

Granted, hers were pretty cute. All sorts of cute material & such. I just used what I had on hand. And jury-rigged a ruffle. All in all, I like it. I makes me happy. And I didn't have to pay $30 plus shipping for it. (Just sayin'!!!)

3/2/10

Canvas & banner love

It all started out with this sweet creation for Abbie.

Then I started getting requests....(!)

They look so much better in person, but a pic will have to do.

Am I getting in over my head??

I have one more in the works for a shower gift.
And two requested, but on the backburner until I get
more instructions on design preferences...

But they are so fun. A labor of love.

I've also been making banners for birthdays and baby showers.

Ahhhh, I love making things. It's good for my soul.

$2 shoes...whooo!

I was at Wally world a while back, and I spotted these in a cart (or buggy, depending where you're from) for $2 on clearance. $2!!!!! So they came home with me, and I also got a pair for my sisters for a v-day treat. I got 2 pairs for myself. I can't even remember the last time I bought shoes. Well, I bought flip flops last summer, but not sure if that counts. I'm not a shoe-buying fan. Anyway, I thought these were nice, but could use a little spice.

So, I made a ribbon flower. I gathered the ribbon on one side, and sewed it all up. I added a button on the front, and sewed a clip-on earring on the back (got a pkg of 8 clips for $3 at hobby lobby-the pkg cost more than the shoes, hahahaha), that way I can take it off or change them if I want.

One sister got yellow shoes, so she's getting the blue "flowers".
As a bonus, they are REALLY comfortable. Thanks, wally-world!
